St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania of the Orthodox Church in America and is under His Eminence, Archbishop Melchisedek.
The church is at 601 Boone Avenue, Canonsburg, PA.We are on a hilltop near Canon-McMillan High School and Canonsburg Hospital, about a mile from Exit 43 on Interstate 79.
Our patron saint is St. John the Baptist, the Forerunner of the Lord , through whose prayers our parish was established in 1918. Our Lord said of him, “Among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist.” (St. Matthew 11:11) We honor his memory with special liturgies at Holy Theophany (January 6), when he baptized our Lord, and also for St. John’s birth (June 24) and his beheading (August 29).
We invite you to visit our church and participate in our services, which are all in English. There is plenty of space in our parking lot, and we have a beautiful sanctuary with the icons of many beloved Orthodox saints. For children, we have an active, growing church school program. After every Sunday Divine Liturgy we have a substantial coffee hour, at which you will be warmly welcomed by the members of our parish.
If you are interested in learning more about the Orthodox Christian faith, we think that you will be comfortable at St. John’s, where there are inquirers from several different backgrounds. Our priest, Fr. John Kotalik, also offers a series of classes for those who want to go deeper into the teachings and practices of Orthodox Christianity.
To catch a glimpse of what our services are like, you may want to take a look at our YouTube channel, and explore the resources on our website. But we really hope that you will come and visit us soon!
