All Proceeds Will Benefit
Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry
OCPM Mission - To bring the love of Christ to those who are in prison by providing
encouragement, material support, transition and reintegration services, Christian education,
spiritual guidance and the sacramental life of the Church.
Starting on Oct. 26, during church school there will be a book discussion on the book Father Arseny, 1893-1973: Priest, Prisoner, Spiritual Father. (Click on this link to order a copy from Amazon.) Here is how this book is described:
It is one of the great mysteries of life that in atmospheres of the harshest cruelty, a certain few not only survive but emerge as beacons of light and life. Father Arseny, former scholar of church art, became Prisoner No. 18736 in the brutal 'special sector' of the Soviet prison camp system. In the darkness of systematic degradation of body and soul, he shone with the light of Christ's peace and compassion.
Father Arseny consists of a series of vignettes from prison life in Soviet Russia, and gradually builds a picture of this holy man. We’ll talk about what Fr. Arseny’s life has to teach us. This is open to anyone. Please see John Thompson if you have any questions.

Our Women's Bible Study Group has selected "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World" which is available at Barnes & Noble ($10.98 paperback, $9.99 Nook).
...a short synopsis
The life of a woman today isn’t really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. Like Mary, you long to set at the Lord’s feet...but the daily demands of a busy world just won’t leave you alone. Like Martha, you love Jesus and really want to serve him...yet you struggle with weariness, resentment, and feelings of inadequacy.
Then comes Jesus, into the midst of your busy life, to extend the same invitation he issued long ago to the two sisters from Bethany. Tenderly, he invites you to choose ’’the better part’’--a joyful life of intimacy with Him that flows naturally into loving service.
With her fresh approach to the familiar Bible story, Joanna Weaver shows how all of us--Marys and Marthas alike--can draw closer to our Lord: deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy. Paperback, 241 pages.
If you are interested in joining in the discussion or just reading and listening, please join us on the folowing Sundays after Liturgy. Grab a cup of coffee at coffee hour and bring it on over to the parish house. The schedule, til January at least, is: 9/9, 10/14, 11/18, 12/9, and 1/14.
