What is the Canonsburg "O" Club?

Canonsburg "O" Club - FOCA Chapter #109 -

A chapter of the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America (FOCA), the Canonsburg “O” Club sponsors fellowship activities for Orthodox Christians. It serves the Church on local, regional, and national levels. The mission of the FOCA is to proclaim, share and reveal our Orthodox Faith through service, fellowship and example. The Fellowship provides a variety of spiritual, educational, social and athletic activities, as well as a dedication to important service projects. All are welcome to join. Canonsburg has both “senior” and “junior” chapters. The junior chapter is open for those from ten to eighteen years of age. The senior chapter is open to those eighteen and over. The FOCA provides fellowship opportunities for Orthodox Christians of all ages. The FOCA national convention is held Labor Day weekend, and also sponsors national sports tournaments in bowling, basketball and golf. This is an opportunity to travel and meet others within the Faith. Join today, and get to know other Orthodox Christians both locally and nationally, while doing some good works for your Church!

Pentecost Luncheon

Pentecost - 06/19/09

The Canonsburg “O” Club sponsored a fundraising event, a boxed luncheon, on Pentecost this year.  Green silk leis were distributed to parishioners as they entered church for “Green Sunday”.   Following Liturgy, a picnic-box lunch with hot dogs and hamburgers, chips, baked beans and brownies.  Our two “Grill-Masters” were “O” Club member Bob Schenken and parish President, Kip Yarosh.   Parishioners enjoyed their lunches on the church lawn, either at tables or on the lawn on blankets.  It was a bright, sunny day with the church beautifully decorated with green leaves everywhere.   Fellowship was enjoyed by all.  A gift basket was raffled off and was won by one of our Sunday School  teachers, Marcie Killmeyer.  Members of the “O” Club donated the food, which gave as a good profit.  All members helped make this event a success, under the supervision of co-chairs Kyra Schenken and Mat. Myra Oleynik.  Thanks go out to all of the parishioners who supported this event.

Parish Life Amid COVID-19
As of March, the parishes of our archdiocese have been blessed to return to normal liturgical and social life as each parish has seen fit, and at our June parish council meeting we resolved to finally make this move for our parish.  What does this mean?
  • Masks are now optional; those who wish to continue wearing them are welcome to do so, and will receive the full support of the parish in this personal choice.
  • Regular veneration of icons and the Cross at the end of services will resume; those who wish to refrain out of caution are welcome not to venerate icons, and should simply bow their head and receive a blessing with the Cross as we have been doing
  • Normal use of the communion cloths will resume; paper towels will still be available for those who wish to continue to use them as we have been doing.
  • Kissing the chalice at Holy Communion will now resume; Fr. John and the deacons will hold up the chalice for veneration, but feel free to refrain if uncomfortable.
